The hardest thing about launching and growing a business in 2018, is the fact that you kind of feel like everything has been done, everything has beens aid and every audience has been served.
I’m not going to bs you here.
Innovation requires a ton of creativity these days.
The good news is, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel to have a successful business.
In today’s post, I am covering three things that you can do today to start standing out online amongst your competition so that you can be more visible to your clients and customers.
1. Define signature elements for your brand
Defining signature elements for your brand is a crucial exercise I have my 1:1 clients do to get full clarity around what their brand actually means.
So what are signature elements? Signature elements are pillars of your brand that create a core theme or belief that your brand stands by.
If you don’t know why in the heck you would need a core theme. I talk all about the power of Personal Branding and the importance of connecting your story to your client’s story in this post here. Alex Wolf’s book, Resonate, also does a great job talking about the power of resonating as a way to increase your visibility. I also talk about Alex Wolf and her book here.
Every brand needs a core theme. The core theme is basically the heart of your message and gives your business an identity that your customers and client’s can rally behind.
When you go beyond creating a business that stands behind a product or service, and create a business that stands behind a purpose, you attract a loyal community of followers that want to create a movement around it.
[sc name=”Lead Magnet”]2. Everything your favorite mentor or business bestie says, stop saying it.
Want to know the easiest way to waste your time creating useless social media content?
Say the things that everybody else is saying.
I get it. Your favorite mentor is super successful. Your business bestie built her six-figure empire in six months. They obviously did something right. And that means, whatever they’re doing, you need to be doing too.
I want to be totally honest with you.
The first way to bury your brand, your business and your messaging, is to say what everyone in your industry is saying.
Because chances are, if your favorite mentor has said something, there is a ton of people out there that admire her and are copying it too.
That means by the time you say it, people have a;ready heard it read it, heard it or seen it 100x so when you say it, people just kind of…well, ignore you without even realizing their ignoring you.
It’s honestly better to say nothing at all, then copy someone else.
3. Challenge your core audience’s myths and beliefs
Now that you know that it’s really bad (and a total waste of time) to copy what your favorite mentor is saying, I want you to know that really gives you an opportunity to stand out even more.
You see, just the fact that you’re reading this, is going to give you an edge.
Because while everyone is copying that common mentor you all love, this is your chance to challenge what is being said, and put your own perspective on it.
Because when everyone else is saying things like:
“Create a passion-fueled business you love.”
You could be creating content about, “why creating a passion-fueled business will keep you broke” and talk about how your passion-based business has to also be aligned with your audiences interests and why just “following your passion” isn’t enough.
This kind of topic is going to stand out against everyone shouting “follow your passions! follow your passions!”
