Why You Should Always Dress Your Best

If you’re the kind of girl that shows up to slay when you first get a job, then as the months go on, your clothes start to look more wrinkled and you find yourself throwing your barely combed hair into a matted bun, I can tell you that when you are building an online brand, and working full-time from home, it actually gets worse.

When I first went full-time in my brand and online business, the thing that excited me the most was the thought of never wearing work pants again. It also didn’t help that people around me proclaimed that your audience didn’t really care about how you look. As long as you were serving and helping people, nobody really gave a damn.

And while I admit, there are times that I have shown up looking like a dog on Facebook Live, I’ve found that waking up and dressing like the Queen that you are comes with some major perks that far surpass kicking it on your couch in an oversized t-shirt and holy sweats. In fact, dressing your best can actually help you catapult your brand and make you a more confident, and efficient Girlboss!

Stay Ready So You Never Have To Get Ready

Will Smith said it best: If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready. Basically, those who go from stagnant to seeing sudden bursts of growth in their career, are those who always stay ready for any opportunity in life.

While hanging out in your pajamas is incredibly comfy, every single day that you sit around in your pajamas, is another day you have to get ready. Here is why you should take an extra hour every morning to do your makeup, put on your best outfit and show up like you own the place.

You’re always ready for a photoshoot and your next piece of content.

One of the greatest accomplishments you can have as an Influencer, Blogger and Entrepreneur is to master time-management.

The first year I started building my online brand, I never felt like I had enough time to create quality content. That was because I always had to get ready. Once I finished the projects I was working on with brands, met with all my coaching clients, and connected with my community, I still needed to create content.

At 4pm, putting on makeup made me feel like I was just starting my day again, except I was exhausted and didn’t feel like spending the next hour and a half, beating my face and figuring out what outfit I was going to wear.

Then 5:30pm would roll around, I’d leave the house, find a last minute place to shoot in the city, and pray that I would get some decent photos before the sun went down.

Sometimes I did. Many times I didn’t.

Regardless, nothing makes you feel worse about your content like when you know that it’s always last minute and constantly half-assed. When I looked at women that were crushing it, every single one of them made time every morning to do their hair, makeup and put on their best outfit before they began any work.

These same women, I also noticed were content creating machines.

I wanted to be that kind of woman. The kind of woman that creates way more content than everyone else because she stays camera ready. Whether that be photos of her working behind the scenes or doing a quick photoshoot of her OOTD after lunch.

Or her ability to show up every day on Instagram Stories and effortlessly connect with her audience throughout the day because she feels sexy and confident.

Now of course, I’m not saying that you can’t feel good about yourself when you’re not wearing makeup or when you lounge around in sweats. I still do lounge around a few days out of the week. But what I do know is that most of us don’t want to be celebrated for our laziness or build a brand around us looking our worst. We want to be known and remembered for the best version of our self. And if you want to be known for your best self, then choosing to look your worst is probably putting a huge damper on how efficient and productive you can be as a content creator.

In 2019, those who hustle to create and put out fresh new content on a regular basis are the ones being seen. Finding easy opportunities to create content throughout the day will help you become one of the major players making waves online. This is truly the biggest reason why you should always dress your best so you can be ready to create that content.

You’re always ready to connect with someone that can take your brand to the next level.

I can’t tell you how many opportunities I’ve passed on, events I’ve skipped out on or meetings I’ve rescheduled simply because I looked bad and needed time to get ready.

First impressions are everything. And it’s really easy to skip out on opportunities to collaborate or network when you look like a hot mess. For example, while in LA, I could be on the way to a grocery store, and get a text from a friend that there is a huge event happening and how much I needed to be there.  If I’m not dressed up, I now have to go home and get dressed and most times if I’m going in the house and it’s later than 8pm, I’m not coming back out.

If I atleast have on a nice jumper, my hair is styled, and my makeup is done, I can touch up, go to the event, shake hands with people, and best scenario, I leave with a few new connections and a new friend or colleague that will last a lifetime.

If you’re like me and have skipped events or dodged Skype calls because you look a hot mess, it’s totally killing your ability to make meaningful connections like you would when you’re face-to-face.

You show up differently and your audience resonates with that.

The purpose of this blog and platform is to help you become the most powerful version of yourself. I can tell you from personal experience that when you dress your best, the way you walk, the way you speak, and the way you approach your brand and your business is from a completely different level of confidence, then when you look like a slob that just woke up.

If you want to build a powerful brand, show up like you already have one. Show up like you already have a team that you work with that’s helping you take your brand to the next level.

Even if you don’t think it matters, your audience does care about how you look. Not in the you have to be the prettiest, skinniest, or wealthiest person kind of way.

But people want to follow people that reinforce their viewpoint that they can be better, have more, and actually love their life. And a lot of times the way we dress reflects how we feel about ourselves.

And when your audience sees you hold yourself to the highest queenly level possible, it inspires them to want to do the same.

And if you’re not inspiring, you’re not building a following.
